As many of you are probably aware Helmet Tagging has been mandatory for EA affiliated events in the sport of Eventing since July 2019, and it also came into effect for Show Jumping as of the 1st January 2022 but did you know that from the 1st July 2022 that it will also be compulsory for all EA affiliated events for the sports of Dressage, Driving and Endurance.
Tagging indicates that the helmet you are wearing complies with current EA standards.
So how do you get your helmet tagged? You can check with your state equestrian branch to check for locations and dates or alternatively if you are attending an event, they will have times available for tagging. Contact details can be found on the EA website if you are still unsure. The tag will be placed around the left-hand side harness of the helmet high up so as to be out of the way but clearly visible.
To find out if your helmet is compliant, you can check the standards that can be found on the tag or sticker. You may have to remove the lining sometimes as the information can be located underneath. A helmet can have several standards but as long as one of them is EA compliant it is good to use.
Helmets must conform to one of the current approved safety standards:
HELMET STANDARD AND SAFETY MARK
AS/NZS 3838 (2006 onwards) provided they are SAI Global marked
ARB HS 2012 provided they are SAI Global marked
ASTM F1163 (2004a and any subsequent updates) provided they are SEI marked
SNELL E2001 (and any subsequent updates)
PAS 015 (1998 or 2011 and any subsequent updates) provided they are BSI Kitemarked
VG1 (01.040: 2014-12) with or without BSI Kitemark
