Every ride runs on volunteers. Roles are usually for a single event weekend, no ongoing commitment needed, and you’re covered by insurance for the time you’re volunteering. You’ll be registered on AERASPACE by the Ride Organiser for the dates you help out.
Ride-day roles
- Checkpoint Staff — communications and rider safety out on course
- Penciller — assist in the vet ring
- Time Steward — in-gate, out-gate, and vet ring timing
- Track Pick Up — know the course and help bring horses and riders home
- Water Manager — keep horse drinking water available on course and at base
- First Aid Officer — on-site first aid cover
- Caterer — feed the volunteers and riders
Some roles need formal accreditation — see Take on an Official Role for Chief Steward, TPR Steward, Veterinarian and AERASPACE Operator.
Read the full Volunteer Management Policy for insurance, training and reimbursement details.
How to get started
- Find a ride near you on the Ride Calendar.
- Contact that ride’s Ride Organiser and tell them which role or roles you’d like to try — they’ll register you for the weekend.
- Turn up on the day — the team will show you what to do, and many roles can be picked up with a bit of guidance.
- Want to build towards an accredited role? See Take on an Official Role.
