Officials keep rides safe and fair, and hold formal accreditation through VERA and/or AERA. Accreditation involves training, a probationary period under supervision, and staying active in the role.
Accredited roles
- Chief Steward — AERA accreditation required; written assessment plus three supervised probationary rides
- TPR Steward — training and assessment with a vet and Chief Steward, plus three supervised probationary rides
- AERASPACE Operator — VERA accreditation; supervised training and one full ride under supervision
- Veterinarian — as described in the AERA rule book (see Vet at a Ride)
Once accredited, you’ll need to stay active in the role at least once every 12 months, or complete a supervised ride to re-accredit.
See the Volunteer Management Policy for full accreditation processes and incentive payments.
