AERA Management Committee has recently reviewed the requirements for temperature logs for horses attending endurance events. The aim is to ensure a minimum national standardised temperature log.
The recommendation from the AERA Biosecurity Sub-committee is:
For all horses at all affiliated endurance events, the responsible member must complete and present an AERA standard Horse Health Declaration which includes a minimum of a four day temperature log for each horse. The temperature log must be for the 3 days prior to travel to the event and for the day of travelling to the event with that temperature taken before the beginning of travel.
Where there are variations to this situation, such as travel time taking more than 1 day or arrival at the event being more than 1 day before the start of the event, the Ride Organiser must address the temperature log requirements in their Event Biosecurity Plan.
This means:
· The minimum national standard for a temperature log will show temperatures for the 3 days before departure plus temp on day of departure;
· If travelling for two or more days, temperatures must also be logged for subsequent travel days and time at ride base up to pre-ride vetting;
· Ride Organisers will include in their Event Biosecurity Plan any requirements for temperature logs to allow for greater travel times and days at ride base before pre-ride vetting.
This change will be implemented from 1 November and an updated Horse Health Declaration form will be available from AERA Online. The new form will also be available from AERA’s website.
